heteroromantic ace cis people are not queer, that’s an appropriative sack of bullshit, do you sense a ~pattern here :)))
It’s not appropriating anything. Asexuals of all types are and always have been queering up the limited perspective that society has on sexual and gender identity. They have to “come out” as ace for a reason. They’re queer. Get over it.
queer ace people do exist, but a heteroromantic ace cis person is a fucking straight cis person who is ace. Get over yourself :)
Get over myself? What is that supposed to mean? Do you seriously think I’m the only one who includes asexuals as queer? No. That’s not how it works.
The word queer is defined in the dictionary as being different from the “norm” or expected. In political terms, it’s defined as “A political statement, as well as a sexual orientation, which advocates breaking binary thinking and seeing both sexual orientation and gender identity as potentially fluid.”
Asexuality is a sexual orientation—it’s just as valid to desire no one at all as it is to desire members of the same/opposite gender/all genders. While fluid for some people, it’s not a choice, it’s an identity. It’s different from the expected and “norm”, therefore it is queer. Asexuals face the exact same prejudice that any other queer group faces, the same hate crimes, the same inner struggle over their so-called-by-bigots “deviant” sexual identity.
Stop trying to erase asexuals just because they fit a COUPLE of the expected orientations. I’m a cisgender femme woman who is occasionally attracted to men. Does that make me not-queer? No, because I’m mainly attracted to women, which is not accepted as being expected or “normal”. Likewise, a cis heteroromantic woman is queer if she is asexual because that ALSO is not expected or normal.
Asexuality is not a personality quirk or a lifestyle choice. It’s an identity, and it’s one that doesn’t fit into society’s limited boxes. Hence, queer. End of story.
I can’t thank you enough for saying this, Merry.
